Refugees and Asylum Seekers and social and labor market integration
The European Commission Directorate-general for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DGEMPL) through the EU Programme for Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) signed a Direct Agreement for the implementation of the project ESIRAS (Employability and Social Integration of Refugees and Asylum Seekers), which aims to respond to the challenge of the integration of asylum seekers and refugees in a flexible and innovative way, in seven different European countries.
This project seeks in particular to provide to asylum seekers and refugees better awareness and understanding of the host socio-cultural context, as well as better access to employment and social services.
The project supports municipalities receiving asylum seekers and refugees to address challenges specific to them, in particular those related to the lack of experience and capacity. It mainly targets cities, which receive significant numbers of asylum seekers and refugees.
The action aims at supporting the establishment and operation at municipal level of Integration Centers providing information and training to asylum seekers and refugees to facilitate their integration in society and the labour market.
ESIRAS project is expected to deliver the following results:
The Spanish Red Cross (SRC) coordinates the general project implementation and also provides technical support to the seven ESIRAS local projects.
The action will contribute to the European Agenda on Migration, in particular support the integration process leading to access to the labour market.
